Otho Sylvanis “Sonny” Irvin of Marble Hill, MO., died at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on July 23, 2020. Born on August 15, 1935, near Bessville, Mo., he was the son of S. R. Irvin and Hattie Mae Hale Irvin. He married Edna Viola Sitze on Nov 15, 1958. She survives.
Following his service in the United States Army, Otho worked for Union Starch in Granite City, Illinois.
He mixed chemicals and performed factory maintenance until moving to Bollinger County in 1972.
From that time on he worked as a farm laborer. He was a Cardinal baseball and Nascar fan.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Jeffery L. Irvin and Keith L. Irvin; two daughters: Connie Irvin James
and Cheryl J. Irvin; a brother, Ronald Irvin; two sisters: Glenda Davis and Violet Hazelwood; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Robert and Ricky Irvin; five brothers: P.R. Irvin, S.R. Irvin, Jr., Jerome Irvin, Clarence Irvin, and Curtis Irvin; and three sisters: Beulah McKenna, Lola Gibson and Mary Ferguson, and one grandson.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will begin at noon with Rev. Jamie Hovis officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery near Bessville with military honors by VFW Post 5900.
