Was born on May 26, 1937, in Neeley, Arkansas.
She was one of eight children born to James B and Leona Gertrude Files Williams. On October 15, 1955, she married Leon B Kackley in Arkansas. Following their marriage they moved to East St. Louis, Illinois. Together they raised three daughters:Vickie, Darlene, and Gwendlyn. She worked for a few years as a Certified Nurses Aide in nursing homes. However, her most important job was being a homemaker. She loved to quilt. With her sisters she played cards and dominos. Her large vegetable garden was preserved by her canning. She hulled nuts, picked berries and canned fruits. There was plenty of food to eat and give away.
Leon and Lavern moved to Grassy, Mo., at retirement and were country folks and members of the Marble Hill Church of Christ. Following Leon’s death in 2016, she moved to Jackson, Mo., to live with Darlene.
Survivors include three daughters: Vickie (Ronald) Winberry, Darlene Kackley, and Gwendlyn (Michael) Henry; two sisters: Bea Stewart and Aileen Day; a brother, Russell Williams; five grandchildren: Timothy, Ryan, Jessica, Amanda, and Brittany; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Leon, two brothers: Johnny and Jay B Williams; and two sisters: Velma Stewart and Ida Mae Woodard. Many other family and friends will mourn her passing.
Visitation will be at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Mo., from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Fred Burgand officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at Valhalla Garden of Memories in Belleville, Illinois.
