James William Herron, age 66, of Marble Hill, Passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his residence. He was born on October 13, 1954 in Dexter, Missouri son of Jimmie and Lela Louise Stratton Herron.
James, being affectionately known as Dub, Critter, or Rubber Dubby, worked for many years at Roark Wood Products in Marble Hill. He was an outdoorsman, who loved hunting, but only for bucks and big gobblers; fishing, although he hated fish; mushroom hunting; and arrowhead hunting. He loved rock’n’roll music, and drinking black coffee. He was truly an artist and was especially good at painting, jewelry making, making wing-bone turkey calls, making arrows, and flint knapping arrowheads. He was also a believer of the General Baptist faith. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a mechanic and spent time in England during his service.
Survivors include his siblings: Barbara (Rev. Phillip) Jordan, Janet Herron, Sue Herron, Jeannie (Rev. David) Jordan, and John Herron. Nieces and nephews: Stephenie Chastain, Elizabeth (Rev. Ray) Greenlee, James (Regina) Jordan, Rev. Josh (Tora) Jordan, Jeremiah Jordan, Jessica (Rev. Jon) Barton, and Rev. David Michael Jordan. Great-nieces and nephews: Courtney Haines, Alisa (Joey) Radford, Logan, Hailey, and Whitney Jordan, Rev. Brandon, Mary, Breanna, and Megan Greenlee, and Ryan Barton. 3 great-great nephews: James, Daniel, and Jeremiah. Aunts and uncles: Mary Fowler, Agnes Atchison, Gail Garner, James, and Lynn Stratton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Joyce Herron.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel, with the Rev. Josh Jordan, and Rev. Ray Greenlee officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Scopus, Mo.
