Carolyn "Carrie" Diana VanDeVen, 77, of Marble Hill, Mo., died November 28, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Born on Feb. 6, 1943, in East St. Louis, Illinois, she was the daughter of of Earl Vester and Ethel Lucille Tharp Smith. On Nov. 23, 1963,, she and Thomas Edward VanDeVan were married in Arnold, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2017.
Carrie was a supportive Navy wife, spending time raising three children in Southern California. Following the family's return to Missouri in 1979, she worked for the Banner Press. Later she worked for VIP Industries. She had served on the Board of Directors as secretary for the Marble Hill Nutrition Center and
on the board of directors as president for the Bollinger County ARC/ sheltered workshop. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church.
She is survived by three children: Becky (Bradley) Hoffman of Indiana, Debbie (Andy) Holland and Jesse VanDeVen, both of Marble Hill; five grandchildren: Caleb and Olivia Moyers, Brandi Biberstine, Thomas and Britni Hoffman; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Rost of Arnold, Mo.; and a brother, Robert Smith of Hillsboro, Mo.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. Rev. David Coon will officiate. Hutchings Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
