Carolyn Sue Schreckenberg, 64, of Whitewater, Mo., passed away at her home on March 27, 2022.
Born in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on June 14, 1957, she was the daughter of Melvin Clinton and Jessie Iola Crites Amelunke. On May 7, 1977, she and Virgil Schreckenberg were married at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold. He survives.
Carolyn worked 24 years for Walmart. She retired recently and was looking forward to driving a school bus and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was an award-winning horseshoe pitcher. Along with many trophies she was inducted into the Missouri Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame. She was a member of the SEMO Horseshoe Pitching Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, and St. John Catholic Church.
Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters: Whitney S. Schreckenberg and Lacey I. Goldsberry, both of Whitewater; two sisters: Sandy (Robert) LeVan of Henderson, NV, and Donna (Rick) Martin of Whitewater; five brothers: Michael (Nancy) Amelunke of Columbia, MO, Ron Amelunke and Steven (Kim) Amelunke, both of Whitewater, Wesley (Diane) Amelunke of Chaffee, Mo., and Gary (Andy Cox) Amelunke of Ft. Myers, FL; and three grandchildren: Hailey and Jonathan Goldsberry and Dakota Kranawetter. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Church in Leopold on Thursday at 10:00 a,m. Father Antony Thekkanath will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be relatives: Alicia Ressell, Rebecca Martin, Sarah Landers, Tiffany Samples, Diane Pobst, Jennifer Tidwell, Stacey Uhrhan, and Sherry Lappe.
