Carl “Sonny” Donald Murray, Jr of Grassy, MO passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO with his wife by his side.
He was born on June 16, 1957 in St. Louis, MO to Carl and Peggy Pearson Murray.
He served in the United States Army as a crew chief on the UH-1H Huey helicopter. While stationed in Griesheim, Germany, he took one look at Sandra Lynn Rainey, a fellow soldier stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, and knew he had to marry her.
The two were wed on October 16, 1980 in Copenhagen, Denmark and went on to have five beautiful children.
While serving in the Army, he became disabled and shortly after retired from active duty and moved his family to Bollinger County.
He attended Christian Family Fellowship in Grassy.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Sonny was an avid follower of Jesus and shared the Gospel wherever he went; junkyards, rest areas, gas stations, public bathrooms, doctors offices, etc.
He raised his children on Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” and made sure to instill a hard work ethic in all of them.
He loved junking, guns, making jokes, helping others, staying busy, dancing with his wife and smacking her booty.
Anyone who had the privilege of getting one, knows he gave the best hugs and was always the last to let go.
