Leroy Joseph Jansen, 58, of Leopold, Mo., died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, August 31, 2019.
Born on Feb. 12, 1961, at Cape Girardeau, Mo., he was the son of the late Simon and Theodora Hinkebein Jansen. He and Gina Patrice Cook were married at St. John Church.
For many years he worked for Dutch Enterprises as an equipment operator. He was presently working for Nip Kelley Construction. Leroy was a life-long member of St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, and a Third-Degree Knight of Columbus with St. Isidore Council 5898.
He was a well-recognized community figure, never missing a chance to greet everyone, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Gina; by four sisters: Diane (Paul) Keller of Chaffee, Mo., Delores (Darryl) Bohnsack of Jackson, Mo., Yvonne (Jamie) Crawford of Morley, Mo., and Jerene (John) Lovell of Leopold; by his mother in law, Geraldine Cook of Patton, Mo.; by sister in law, Mitzi Cook of Patton; two brothers in law: Guy Cook of Cape Girardeau and Greg Cook of Gordonville, Mo; and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold. Parish rosary and prayers will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at the church. Rev. David Coon will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Hutchings Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
